Bengal’s Cultural Heritage Comes Alive at Khamkheyal’s Art Event

From September 5th to 7th, Khamkheyal turned Gallery Gold Hall at Rabindra Sarobar into more than just a lifestyle exhibition - it became a festival of forgotten art.

In a city that celebrates Durga Puja as the grandest art show on earth, we often overlook our own traditional crafts and the artists behind them. Khamkheyal set out to change that - by giving a platform to those whose voices often go unheard. This wasn’t just an event. It was a reminder: art lives in every corner of our culture - it just needs a space to breathe.

Canvas of Creativity

Art and Autumn was not only a celebration of art but also of the rhythm of the season itself. With lifestyle products and handicraft traders, it became a platform where traditional aesthetics beautifully merged with modern taste. It all felt like a treasure inside an artist’s heart.

The exhibition showcased the results of countless hours of passion and dedication. We were captivated by their craftsmanship, from fine handcrafted jewellery that appeared to glow with its own light. Guests could discover unique items for purchase, learn about the stories behind them, and take home pieces that demonstrated artistry with intent.

Behind the Art

From ancient to modern times, as people changed, so did their lifestyles. And so, art also needs to find new pathways. Deeply rooted in Bengal’s rich literary and artistic traditions, Khamkheyal has become a nurturing ground for emerging talent. Traditional artists such as Sunil Das with his talpatar sepai, Rajkumar Debnath of with his Banshi Putul (linked directly to the Indus Valley Civilization), and Shambhunath Das with Jaynagar’s 'putul' (dolls) that depicted 18th-19th century social life, were represented. Nowadays, clay art products are trendy and fashionable for the younger generation. They like clay jewellery, brooches, and even use pieces for home decoration.

Silence but Vibrancy of Khamkheyal

Behind the camera, the team did a tremendous job. Picture walking down aisles filled with handcrafted goodness, one-of-a-kind fashion items, and home décor that speaks to you, and so much more. This event was a wonderful chance to uncover fresh talent, support local businesses, and discover those special items that bring a bit of flair to your life.

An Open Mic Celebration

Apart from the exhibition, there was also an open mic stage. Multiple local artist from diverse age  recited poetry, sang songs, performed skits, and built a vibrant cultural that reflected the creative rhythm of Kolkata. Just as autumn brings introspection and happiness, the open mic welcomed one and all to be themselves and bond with each other.

Art and Autumn was more than just sales or an exhibition. It was a gathering, a festival. It was a moment where art lovers, artists, and curious onlookers united to celebrate creativity and community. It captured the spirit of the season, a time of change and beauty, and transformed it into unforgettable memories.
